"Go forth and make disciples of all nations" ~ Matthew 28:19
What it means to love uncomfortably with joy for Christ to bring forth his Holy Kingdom here on Earth, “Thy Kingdom Come”
This week I made big boy decisions. Sometimes in life hard decisions are necessary; actually they will inevitably be a requirement at some point in time.
I’ve been attending and working with the American Legion Boys’ State of NY program for 6 years now. This year is different though. This year I have a full-time job, my first, as a youth minister.
This year I knew I had to change something. I knew I had to commit somewhere. Boys’ State has been an amazing six years and I hope to be back at it again soon in the future, but this year my job needed me. The staff and families at my parish needed me. The kids in my youth ministry needed me.
The change of not going to Boys’ State this year was very uncomfortable for me, but God was and is definitely calling me to be present to His direction; to these youth that are before my guidance in my ministry; and too my parish.
But here is the thing we all need to know and pray about as Christian Leaders who are working to be witnesses to God’s love and mercy and build disciples in the world who go forth to build other disciples:
We must be comfortable with being uncomfortable if we want to be Christian leaders and bring people closer to the Person of Jesus Christ alive and present in our lives and theirs and be true witnesses to real love.
Jesus made himself uncomfortable to witness to us what it means to truly love others, and so too must we witness to others that same love that Christ has given to us all. Love that is sometimes uncomfortable is real love! Plain and simple. Christ shows us real love!
This doesn’t mean that this love is had without joy. No, indeed, on the contrary, “today we will be with [Him] in Paradise.” (Paraphrased from the Gospel of Luke 23:43)
In life we will be uncomfortable and there will be suffering, but we must always remember to offer that up to our Heavenly Father.
Now go forth, be strong and steadfast and build disciples in the world for Christ; who are witnesses to his passionate thirst for love and mercy towards us.
“Go forth, make disciples of all nations. Baptizing them in the name of The Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Teaching them all that I have commanded you, and behold, I am with you always in the Holy Spirit.” ~ Matthew 28:19
